| Police were called to an address in Speen Lane just before 7pm on Thursday evening (14th Sept), answering a report that a garden scythe had been stolen.
They were confronted by a man who threatened them with an offensive weapon (the scythe). For their own safety, the officers called for backup which ultimately developed into a full scale operation involving dogs and the police helicopter.
Several roads in Newbury town centre were closed off as the incident developed. A man was finally arrested at 9.30pm outside Ladbrokes in Market Street.
A 35 year old man was still being questioned by police on Friday (15th) |
