Bells on Thursday
21st November 2006 08.11am

Residents of Newbury will be familiar with hearing the bells of St Nicolas church ringing out on Sundays and Mondays, but this Thursday (23rd November) we will be ringing a special farewell quarter-peal for Amanda Rodger, who is leaving Newbury (along with husband Mike) for pastures new in Carlisle.

The quarter peal will start at 7:30 and last for about three quarters of an hour. We will be ringing all 10 bells in a method called Grandsire Caters.

Amanda's leaving makes us one member short, of course, although we are actively seeking several new ringers. Anyone inspired by the sound of the bells, or just interested in taking up a new hobby, would be made very welcome to come and see what it's all about. It's a mixture of something musical, something mathematical, a memory challenge, and physical exercise! Contact the Tower Captain, Martin Rice, via the church office, or just come up the tower on a Sunday or Monday when you hear us ringing.
