| Hampshire Police have updated us on yesterday’s accident on the A339. The accident occurred on the three lane section just south of Kingsclere. Three vehicles were involved – A Mercedes saloon driven by a 44 year old man from Wales, a Subaru Imprezza driven by a 42 year old man from Hannington and a Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 21 year old man from Newbury.
The driver of the Corsa and his passenger both sustained fatal injuries. The driver was named as 21 year old Lee Makepeace from Pindar Place Newbury, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was 18 year old Emma Louise Jobson from Speen Lane Newbury, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the North Hampshire Hospital at Basingstoke.
The road was closed for 9 hours to enable a specialist crash investigation team to complete their work. Drink driving is not suspected as being a factor in the accident.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on police bail.
