| Bartholomew Street is enduring mixed fortunes this week with the comings and goings of local businesses. Nature's Corner spin-off café Caramelle will close its doors on Saturday after just eight months in business, after owners Liz Chandler and Caroline Withers blamed spiralling overheads for forcing their hands. The café specialised in gourmet and organic ingredients in a very competitive sector, so the sisters decided to stick to what they know and concentrate on healthfood shop Nature's Corner.
However, a few doors down, the former Carphone Warehouse shop will see a new lease of life as Wilds Sports relocates from Northbrook Street. Wilds current shop is to be flattened to create a new road for the Vision for Newbury project.
And there's good news in the Wharf, where the granary art gallery has been relet to a company called, perhaps ironically, Vision At the Wharf. This will open in three weeks providing quality arts and crafts from near and far. |
